Tailored Wellness Programmes for the 24/7 workplace

There is compelling evidence that a sizable portion of the billions of dollars currently spent by employers on health-related costs, is preventable by means of health promotion programming. Well planned, comprehensive health promotion programs (corporate wellness programs and employee wellness programs) have been shown to be cost-effective, especially when the health promotion programming is matched to the health problems of the specific employee population.

We offer a wellness programme designed specifically for the 24/7 workplace. In addition to the normal health checks the programme targets issues like sleep, stress, fatigue and how to exercise when working extended hours or shifts. All of these are common health issues expereinced by shiftworkers or staff working extended hours.

Programme outline:

Health check:

Measurements include:  Weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure, blood glucose,  blood cholesterol, family history of CVD, vision, smoking status, stress and resiliency status, nutrition, body mass index (height and weight)  waist to hip ratio (waist and hip circumference) cardiovascular risk screen (clinically validated)

Coaching:

A documented action plan based on the results of the individual health assessment

Clinic:

Concerning  sleep, stress and coping with shiftwork and fatigue

Group talks:

Specialist subjects of diet/nutrition, sleep, exercise and stress. As appropriate specialists would be brought in to present on other topics

Rehabilitation service:

Management of physical injury

Group work:

Identifying how each member of the team can help/motivate each other and do group activities.

Interesting Fact:

Excess weight, as measured by BMI, is not the only risk to your health. So is the location of fat on your body. If you carry fat mainly around your waist, you are more likely to develop health problems than if you carry fat mainly in your hips and thighs. This is true even if your BMI falls within the normal range. Women with a waist measurement of more than 89 cms inches or men with a waist measurement of more than 102 cms may have a higher disease risk than people with smaller waist measurements because of where their fat lies.
